Prophet-Z Brushes Off

Prophet-Z has hit the social media scene hard for 2013 with the release of his latest song, "Brush Off".  Inspired by the Brooklyn dancehall scene, the song features dancers, Jeo Da Dancer and Ground Zero Nation.  Titled after the dance, "Brush Off", created by Jeo Da Dancer, the video is an entertaining tutorial.  Backed with zany-sounding synths and bass-heavy thumping kicks, the high-energy track seems to usher in a new unique sound for 2013 of which Prophet-Z delivers very well.  With the official video release last week Friday, the video has already surpassed 1,000 views on YouTube; not bad for an up-and-coming talent in the dancehall arena.  If this is just a taste of what Prophet-Z has to come, then there is no doubt that the future looks bright for the said artist.  

Burning Spear. Big Up!

Roots reggae mi seh!  So, this week I'm gonna big up Reggae artist, Burning Spear.  When I was a young boy I use to jump on my dad's sound system and go rummage through his 45 collection.  That's when I came across Burning Spear's song entitled, "Christopher Columbus".  Classic song...classic riddim.  The message couldn't be any clearer when he sang, "Christopher Columbus is a damn blasted liar."  That song has never left my memory and I make it a point to play that song come every Thanksgiving holiday.  His unique voice is probably the first thing that strikes most people who have never heard his music before.  Also, he's probably one of few artist that dedicated an entire album to the life and works of Marcus Garvey.  Another song of his that I never get tired of listening to is "Cry Blood Africa".  This bass is heavy, the tempo is slow and the mood of the song is real laid back and kool.  A real infectious riddim that makes you slow down and focus on his lyrics when he says: "I and I don't make up I and I mind to go through the same thing like I and I fore-parents go through.  No, before that, cry blood Africa."  Revolutionary and conscious lyrics.  The order of the day.  Burning Spear has a long catalogue of music spanning over about a 40 year period.  He is still alive and well.  Performing, touring and very active on the social networks.  For his work and musical contributions, we big up Burning Spear.  #WELLSHARP

New Dance Alert: Brush Off

Every now and then an infectious dance sweeps the clubs and the dance halls and eventually everybody and their momma is trying to do it.  Well, the new dance, Brush Off, as it has been titled by its creator, Jeo Da Dancer, is one of those dancers.  Jeo joins Prophet-Z on stage and premiers the dance for the audience.  Skip to the 01:48 mark and learn the new dance.  Word has it the official music video for the dance will be coming soon.  #WELLSHARP
